Gilpin’s mascot has been a jaguar for some time.
During the 2010-11 school year, we gave him a facelift and a new name to not only honor the school’s long-standing identity but also the neighborhood’s rich jazz history.
“We wanted to combine both the history of Gilpin as a school as well as the jazz heritage of the Five Points neighborhood as we step into the future,” says Gilpin Principal Frank Vincent of the change.
We officially announced Jazzy to the world in late April 2011 to coincide with Jazz Appreciation Month.
