PRINCIPAL WELCOME FOR THE 2008-2009 SCHOOL YEAR
Greetings Gilpin School Community,
Welcome back to the 2008- 2009 school year! I hope you all have had an enjoyable summer with your children! We look forward to a very productive and rewarding school year.
This year we will continue our work with standard-based instruction, quality collaborative lesson planning utilizing the District Planning and Pacing Guides and collecting student data and on-going assessments as a vehicle to differentiate instruction and positively impact student achievement. Additionally, we are excited to continue our use of the Accelerated Reader and Everyday Mathematics and Connected Mathematics Programs in grades 1-8. We will also implement the CORE literacy program which was launched with our literacy teachers on July 31st and August 1st.
We have begun our transition into Montessori with our 3, 4, and 5 year old children. Our teachers and administrative team have participated in intensive training to prepare for this transition and we look forward to it.
As I begin my fifth year as principal to Gilpin E-8 School I want to express my sincere enthusiasm and honor to be working with your children. I look forward to this year with anticipation of academic success for each and every student!
Sincerely,
Catherine I. Gonzales

WELCOME MONTESSORI LEARNING COMMUNITY
Welcome to Montessori learning community, like the rest of Gilpin, we are all focused on creating learning environments where the students are active learners. The quest for life long learning starts now as 3, 4 and 5 year old students absorb the world in and outside of their classrooms.
Montessori Education is for all children in the Gilpin attendance area as well as the greater NE Denver quadrant. Enrollment is also open to families-city wide
We still have a few spaces available for five year old students in particular, so tell people you know to enroll their young children at Gilpin today!
School Hours:
3 and 4 year olds 8:10 am - 11:15 pm
5 year olds 8:10 am - 3:00 pm
Have quest ons about the Montessori program? Come to the school office and talk to the Montessori Coordinator, Marcellina Otii, 720-424-7162 or e-mail Marcellina_Otii@dpsk12.org
SCHOOL START AND END TIMES
Gilpin School starts at 8:10 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. Students are released to the playground at 3:00 p.m. Breakfast begins at 7:30 am and ends at 8:00 am. This early start allows all students the opportunity to learn during the most productive hours of the day!
FUN IN SCIENCE GRADES 7 ANS 8 THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL
Students in grades 7 and 8 learned about the scientific method this week through a mock investigation of a crime scene. At stations students used qualitative and quantitative evidence to determine who murdered Brittany Spears.
Furthermore, they learned about using inference and making a hypothesis statement. Ask our 7th and 8th graders to tell you the results of their investigation---Was it Ms. Garrison, Mr. Glancy, or Mr. Lamport in the science room with a pair of scissorsļ.

If you have time to volunteer to make this room parent friendly, please call Marcellina at 720-424-7162.
Please remember to pick-up and drop off your children to the playground.
